Faith Comes by Hearing the Word of God

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 KJV God made it easy for you to begin developing a faith that would please Him.  You start with His Word.  How do you develop faith?  By hearing the Word of God.  Not just reading silently, but by hearing God’s Word as it’s read.  Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my…

How to Increase Your Faith

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.   And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. Luke 17:5-6 KJV A grain of mustard seed is the smallest of all garden seeds, yet Jesus said that if…

What is Faith

What is faith?  “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”   Hebrews 11:1 KJV What exactly does that mean?  The dictionary definition of the word substance  is “reality.”  In other words, faith is the reality of things that we hope for, and the proof of things that we don’t see.  So basically, if we have hope in the reality of something taking place, despite the fact that we see…

Therapy – an Unproductive Nightmare

In Michelle’s biography, I talk about how therapy sessions were always counterproductive for Michelle.  So I avoided getting her in with that particular service.  But Michelle was in group homes and with agencies for several years.  The longer she was with them, the more medications they put her on.  And the more medications she was on, the more she dealt with growing anxiety, anxiety attacks, and severe behavior problems.  So…

Michelle’s Biggest Dream

One of the characteristics of Williams syndrome is that they tend to be gifted in music. Michelle is a big country music fan.  Currently, her favorite country singer is Cole Swindell.  Her lifelong dream is to go to Nashville and “get a record deal.”  Never mind that she can’t sing.  She thinks she sings just fine. She loves to write her own “songs.”  It’s not really a song without the…

Pray for Revival!

Hilltop Baptist Church, to which I belong, has been praying for revival, preparing for revival, and trusting God to bring revival.  We’ve been inviting friends, handing out cards and tracts, and sharing with just about everyone we come in contact with.  I had a handful of cards that the pastor had given me this morning – about 10.  I slid each one into a gospel tract and we headed to…

Are you a Good Student?

For the past ten years, I’ve been discipling a good friend.  Although she’s been saved for more than twenty years and has sat under the teaching of God’s word that entire time, she has allowed her spiritual growth to be delayed by circumstances.  As a result, she’s still young in the Lord.  So she is always asking the kind of questions that a baby Christian might ask. One day she…

Yielding to God

It’s amazing what God can do through a yielded vessel.  A couple of weeks ago, our church celebrated “Homecoming,” which is the anniversary of its founding.  With concern for the lost, recognizing a need, and expanding on a vision from God, First Baptist Church of Fairfield, Ohio, started the work on January 16, 1966, and Hilltop Baptist Church was born.  Her first pastor was Jack Wren. Hilltop Baptist Church has…

Building a Firewall

A few weeks ago  I realized my website had been attacked by malware and other Internet creepy crawly things that infiltrate your site to destroy it.  So I called my IPage (that’s my hosting site) technical support team and said, “Help!  There’s a creepy crawly thing on my site and I can’t get it off.”   Actually, it wasn’t really creeping and crawling.  It was just a link that didn’t belong…

Disarming Satan’s Lie

Recently, my daughter Jamie was having severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, and such shortness of breath she could hardly sit up.  Any physical activity, no matter how minor, exhausted her.  Just folding a load of laundry made it difficult for her to breathe.  She couldn’t seem to sit up for more than half an hour.   And every day her symptoms got progressively worse.    She got in with the doctor several…
