“Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!”
Psalm 31:19 KJV
God’s goodness is greater than we can begin to comprehend. Trying to understand God’s goodness is like trying to understand how hot the sun is or the vastness of outer space. We know the sun is hot and we recognize that space is big, even though our tools of measurement are limited. Likewise, we know that God is good. And His goodness has been laid up for those who fear Him – who recognize his awesome might and power; and God has prepared incredibly good things for those who trust in Him.
God bestows abundant goodness on those who fear Him. But what exactly does it mean “to fear the Lord?” That means to recognize Jesus for Who He truly is – God Almighty, the all-knowing and all-powerful Creator of the universe. And with that recognition, we should honor Him with the esteem and respect that He deserves as our Creator.
God’s Goodness on Those who Fear Him.
Joshua 4:24 says, “That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.” God wants you to know that His hand is mighty.
Proverbs 3:7 says, “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” To fear the Lord, you must first recognize who He is; and then you will better understand your shortcomings and failures. Only then will you “be not wise in thine own eyes…and depart from evil.”
God’s Goodness on Those who Trust Him.
Psalm 125:1 says, “They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.” The goodness of God keeps you solid as a mountain.
Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.” The goodness of God provides you with everlasting strength.
Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” The goodness of God blesses the person who trusts in Him.
Do you recognize the goodness of God? It’s in everything you do and everywhere you go.
