Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.
Proverbs 28:5 KJV
To understand judgment means to recognize that there’s a consequence for sin. Sin comes with a price, and sometimes it’s a hefty price. Galatians 6:7 says that each individual reaps what they sow. A farmer doesn’t plant corn and expect to harvest wheat. No one can plant seeds of hate and bitterness and harvest love and peace. Sin begets sin. Evil begets evil. And love begets love. If you think you can fool God, you’re only deceiving yourself. (Galatians 6:7)
So to “understand not judgment” is to not recognize that you will be held accountable for your evil ways and actions. You will suffer the consequences! And people who “understand not judgment” don’t realize where those horrendous consequences are leading them, so they continue in their evil ways. That’s why the Bible says, “Evil men understand not judgment…”
But the verse doesn’t end there. It continues to tell us who does have understanding. “…but they that seek the Lord understand all things.” How is it that evil people don’t even comprehend the basic concept of sowing and reaping while those who seek the Lord understand all things?
Our God is omniscient – He knows everything. So with all knowledge, His understanding is infinite; there is no end to it. But God doesn’t keep all His knowledge and wisdom to Himself. He shares it with the righteous because the righteous seek the Lord. That’s why they understand all things.
John 14:26 says, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” God has sent the Holy Spirit to teach those who seek the Lord.
Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Who does He give it to? The righteous. Verse 7 says, “He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.”
Evil men don’t understand judgment because they don’t think they have to give account to anyone, but those who seek the Lord understand all things.
