For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6 KJV
God desires that His children think like He does. But He knows that apart from Him that is impossible.
- He is perfect. We are imperfect.
- He is holy. We are sinners.
- He is Truth. Without Him, we know no truth.
I Corinthians 3:19 says, “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
That means that only genuine believers will ever experience true wisdom – God’s wisdom. Because for us to think like God, He must tell us what is good, right, and holy. Only God can give us knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
God gives wisdom to those who ask.
And Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
If God gives you wisdom, your understanding will automatically increase.
God’s thoughts are pure and holy. So His wisdom, His knowledge, and His understanding are all pure and holy.
Isaiah 55:9 says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Because God’s thoughts are pure, His wisdom is uncorrupted. Therefore, His knowledge and understanding are reliable. That is why His ways are so much higher than ours. Because we battle this old sinful flesh, everything we do is corrupted by sin.
But the Spirit of God is pure. His wisdom is pure. His knowledge is pure. His understanding is pure. And the Spirit within us is pure. If you will listen to the Spirit of God, He will guide your decisions, direct your steps, and grant your desires. God’s infinite wisdom will broaden your spiritual knowledge and greatly increase your understanding. And when that happens, you’ll understand the difference between your thoughts and His thoughts. God wants us to think like He does.
