“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
II Timothy 2:15 KJV
There’s nothing more rewarding than being approved unto God. When we’re approved unto God, we can stand before Him with confidence, knowing that our actions and attitudes please Him. Judgment Day is coming, and we will all stand before God to give an account of our works.
If we are approved unto God, we will hear the words: “…Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Matthew 25:21
If you are approved unto God, then Jesus is truly your Lord.
How are we approved unto God? By studying! What are we to study? God’s holy Scripture – the Word of Truth. Rightly dividing the Word of Truth means to consider the context and compare Scripture to Scripture to accurately interpret verses. It’s a lot like extracting a couple of sentences out of someone’s speech. If we take the right sentences, we can easily twist the meaning of the message. To rightly divide the Word of God, we keep the verse in the context of the entire passage. We don’t simply extract a couple of verses from a chapter to make it say whatever we want.
Therefore, when we study and rightly divide the Word of Truth, we are approved unto God and have nothing to be ashamed of.
II Timothy 3:15 says, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
The holy Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith in Jesus, so it’s imperative we study them, rightly divide them, and know them.
