Life is full of uncertainties and unplanned detours. How do we know which path to take or which decision is the right one when faced with dozens of alternatives while dealing with disobedient children or family disputes or job challenges or financial decisions or legal complications or marital disagreements or educational alternatives or medical problems…the list is endless.
You can consult a professional – a child psychologist or a counselor or a lawyer or a financial advisor – and many people do. But if they’re too costly, just ask your best friend for advice. And many people do that, too. The problem is that these advisors, regardless of their good intentions or worldly knowledge on a particular subject are extremely limited in their foresight, as are we all. The only one with unlimited knowledge on all subjects is God Almighty.
Isaiah 40:28 says, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.”
There is nothing that God does not understand. His knowledge is incomprehensible. His comprehension is infinite.
Our knowledge is limited by time and space and intelligence and education. God is not limited by any of those things because He is omnipresent and omniscient.
- He knows the secrets and longings of your heart.
- He knows your dreams and challenges and pain.
- He knows what’s best for every one of His children.
- He knows your future.
- He doesn’t miss the mark or make errors in judgment like we do.
- He always tells the truth. He knows the truth. He is the truth.
His knowledge and understanding never end.
I John 3:19-21 says, “And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.”
You might deceive yourself into thinking you’re saved and ignore the condemnation of your heart, but God is greater than your heart. He knows all things. He knows if you really belong to Him.
Daniel 2:22 says, “He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” Regardless of what we say or do or believe, God knows the truth – about our lives, our faith, our thoughts.
Hebrews 4:13 says, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
God sees and knows everything. Nothing can be hidden from His all-seeing eye. God knows your past. God knows your future. And God knows everything you’re going through at this very moment. Who better to go to for advice and counsel?
There is an expression, “You get what you pay for.”
- Advice from a friend is free, but it could cost you in other ways when you make a wrong decision.
- Advice from a professional is costly and it’s not guaranteed to give you clear direction or help you make correct choices, so it could also mislead you.
- But guidance from God can be the most expensive, because He doesn’t give advice. Advice is something you can choose to follow or ignore. First, God only gives directions to those who have committed their lives to Him, and that’s a lifetime commitment. Second, God only instructs those of His children who intend to obey Him. And He knows your intentions, too.
You’ll never go wrong by seeking His direction and following His guidelines. Whether you understand why or agree with His direction, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief by doing it God’s way. He makes no mistakes.
