“The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”
Nahum 1:7 KJV
There are three valuable truths about God Almighty that we can glean from this verse.
- The Lord is good. Everything He does is good. Everything He says is good. Therefore, His guidance and direction are good; they’re right; they’re always what we need to hear, regardless of what we want to hear. That means we can always trust Him.
- He’s a stronghold in the day of trouble. A stronghold is a fortress or a source of refuge. God is a place where we can run for protection during times of trouble. He’ll safeguard us.
- He knows those who trust in him. He personally knows each and every one that has placed their trust in Him.
The Lord is good to everyone, whether or not they deserve it.
Matthew 5:45 says, “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
There are some blessings that God grants to everyone. But He’s not a stronghold to everyone; only to those who trust in Him, because only those who trust in Him will run to Him in times of trouble. And He knows those who trust in Him.
