“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
I Thessalonians 5:18 KJV
Giving thanks in all circumstances helps us to recognize God’s many blessings in our lives, which in turn helps us to develop a thankful heart and spirit. And people who develop a thankful heart are happy people.
God does not expect you to thank Him for the bad situations that come into your life, although He often uses those circumstances to bring about His will in your life – to teach you something valuable and to mold you into His image.
You give thanks for the good in the midst of a bad circumstance or situation. And no matter how bad things seem to be, there’s always something to be thankful for. God was there through it all, or He sent an angel to support and guide you through an incredibly difficult situation. You may not recognize it at the time as you watch a fire destroy your home… or bury a child… or struggle to get a loved one into a substance abuse program… or face any other devastating and life altering mountain in your life.
But Jesus said in Hebrews 13:8 “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
No matter what comes your way, trust the Lord to be there, and always look for the good in which to thank Him.
