Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Psalm 119:165 KJV
Peace is available to each and every one of God’s precious children. God’s peace blesses you with a mental calm that frees you from fear; and a tranquil heart that allows you to rest securely in the assurance of His love and protection. But Jesus gives us more than peace. He desires that we experience great peace.
Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Which passeth all understanding means that it is beyond human comprehension. Only Jesus can understand it. That is great peace. That is the peace we receive through Christ – and only through Christ.
But although God’s peace is available to all believers, many of God’s people are continually filled with anxiety and turmoil. They don’t experience the peace which Jesus promised in John 14:27 when He said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus promised to give us His peace and assured us that our hearts need not be troubled or afraid. But that kind of peace comes with a price.
Psalm 119:165 says, “Great peace have they which love thy law…” The price of God’s peace is a love for His law. How do we demonstrate that love?
- By taking time to learn and understand His commandments.
- By studying and memorizing His precious Scripture.
- By obeying His Word.
If God’s people do those things, they will experience great peace – a peace which is beyond human comprehension “…and nothing shall offend them.”
