Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Isaiah 26:3 KJV
We currently live in a world of turmoil and indecision. Where is God through all this? He promised never to leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), which means He’s there – with each and every one of His children.
- He walks with us, but we don’t always stay beside Him. (Like a toddler who runs ahead of Mom and Dad.)
- He talks to us, but we don’t always listen. (Like our children who’d rather listen to their friends.)
- He attempts to guide us, but we often prefer to go our own direction. (Like our teenagers, who think they know what they’re doing, but we don’t.)
Remember that God cannot lie, and He keeps all His promises. And in Isaiah 26:3, He promised to keep His children in perfect peace for simply keeping their focus on Him. And then He explains how He can do it. Because to keep your mind focused on God is to take it off of yourself, your circumstances, your job, your spouse, and anything else that may be causing you concern or worry.
The more you focus on God, the more you rely on Him, and the more you obey Him, the more you trust Him. And the more you trust Him, the greater your peace. So even in the midst of COVID, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Think on Christ…Focus on Christ…Dwell on Christ – His love, His goodness, His mercy, His grace, His sacrifice, His forgiveness, His word, and you will realize that nothing can overcome His power, His will, and His might. Because God is in total control, and you’re in His hand, you can experience perfect peace that transcends all human logic.
In John 16:33, Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Herein lies one of the secrets to peace. If we keep our minds focused on God and trust Him to guide us, we can’t help but experience a great calm in our spirit. His peace settles over us. Jesus wants us to have a calm spirit.
That’s why He said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
But how does that affect us?
I John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them [those with a spirit of antichrist]: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” And that’s where our peace comes from.
