“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – Jesus
John 14:27 KJV
According to the dictionary, peace means, “mental calm; serenity.” And according to the Bible, there’s only one place to get peace, and that’s God. Psalm 29:11 says, “The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.”
As a Christian, you are to let the peace of God reign in your heart. The key word is “let.” The choice is yours whether or not you allow God’s peace to dominate your life. You can choose to take control by allowing anxious thoughts to prevail, which inevitably lead to fear and worry. That’s what the world gives you.
But the peace that Jesus leaves with you is nothing like the world’s peace. The anxiety, fear, and worry of the world rob you of the true peace found in your relationship with Christ your Savior. That’s why Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus also said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) And if Jesus can overcome the world, then through His power, you also are able to overcome the world and experience God’s perfect peace.
I Corinthians 14:33 says, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” God doesn’t cause or bring about confusion, which causes anxiety and turmoil; He brings only peace into your life. So then, where does the anxiety and unrest come from? Worldly desires, ambitions, and goals, which revolve around lustful and selfish ways.
I John 2:16 says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16) And if you walk in the Spirit, you will have God’s perfect peace.
