Isaiah 55:10-12 says, “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
Four children asked Jesus to save them this week at Vacation Bible School. That’s what VBS is all about.
Vacation Bible School is a lot of work, but it is also a lot of fun.
Vacation Bible School requires dozens of man hours before the first night – building the set, shopping for or designing the classroom decorations, decorating the classrooms, buying the snacks, organizing game time, writing the skits, preparing the lessons, distributing flyers, coordinating each class’s schedule, registering the children. And lots of prayer. Only God knows how much time actually goes into its preparation.
Vacation Bible School needs a lot of volunteers to help it run smoothly, including:
- Someone to register the children and take care of all the paperwork.
- The bus driver who runs the route and brings them in.
- The volunteers who run game time.
- The people who man the kitchen and take care of snack time.
- Those who participated in the opening skit every night.
- The folks who led the music and opened the door of excitement in the heart of each child every night.
- The teachers and assistants of each class who checked the kids in as they arrived, kept them corralled before VBS began, supervised them in the auditorium, escorted them from one activity to the next, and presented each nightly lesson designed to draw them closer to God.
It was an exhausting week, but one thing is certain. God’s Word went out and it will not return unto Him void, but it will accomplish His purpose and plan. As God’s rain watered the earth this weekend to bring forth flowers and good food to eat, His Word watered the hearts of all those who heard it. And all creation rejoiced. We may never see the full impact we had on the lives of these children and their families this week. We may never know the powerful way God might call or use those four young people who accepted Him as Savior. Only eternity will reveal the magnitude of what was accomplished this week at Vacation Bible School.
