I love to travel. Between being a military child and a military spouse, I’ve been through three-quarters of the United States. But as many times as I’ve crossed through Arizona, I’d never visited the Grand Canyon, so my husband and I packed up our grandsons (ages 11 and 13) and took off for the Grand Canyon. We stayed in a resort in Flagstaff, Arizona, and the staff there helped us set up day trips to visit things of interest in the area.
We took a tour to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We visited a Hopi Indian Reservation and toured a small Hopi village. We took a smooth water rafting trip down the center of Glen Canyon, and we took a two-hour jeep tour through Sedona.
Every one of our tour guides talked about the same thing: how millions and billions of years ago Arizona was once on the bottom of the ocean floor, totally under water. They spoke with authority as they explained how the ridges in the canyons were formed by rushing water. And that underground plates shifted, forming mountains, most of which blew into volcanoes. As a result, Arizona is actually a volcano state with more volcanoes than almost anywhere else in the world. At present, there are no active volcanoes in Arizona, but at one time, a lot of them had erupted. That’s what the geologists say.
That is absolutely incredible! How did all that come about? Was Arizona once under water? Yes! There’s Biblical and physical evidence to support their claims. But was it millions and billions of years ago as the geologists declare? No! In their drive to disprove the Biblical account of creation, they’ve adopted the evolutionary philosophy of “millions and billions of years.” That makes earth’s condition and origin happenstance, and they teach it as fact. This way they don’t have to recognize the Creator of the universe or attribute the condition of the earth to the hand of Almighty God.
However, the Bible is the most accurate and reliable Book ever written because its Author is God. That’s why the Bible is called God’s Word. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that he should lie…” Unlike man, God always speaks the complete and total truth. And in Genesis 6-8, He describes His first great judgment against the inhabitants of the earth – a world-wide flood. No wonder geologists believe that at one time Arizona was completely under water. It was, along with the rest of the world.
Genesis 7:17-21, 24 says, “And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man…And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.”
Water had completely covered the earth, and it had absolutely nowhere to go. For nearly six months, the ark that Noah built floated high above the earth in a world so flooded that the water even covered the highest mountain. God had destroyed the earth in such a way that it would never recover without His help. Geologists recognize that parts of the globe were shaped by a great flood of water, but they refuse to acknowledge the Biblical account of a world-wide flood. So what happened to all the water?
Before the great flood, the circumference of the globe was smaller than it is now. There were no oceans. The continents fit together like puzzle pieces. After being under water for about six months, God expanded the world, separating the continents to create individual homes for the vast body of water – our four great oceans and gulfs, lakes, and seas. During this transition, the world was in utter chaos. Continents were torn apart, underwater caverns were created, the ground shifted, creating faults in the earth and shifting plates which formed new mountains and volcanoes. These shifting plates also cause earthquakes and tsunamis. And for the most part, geologists believe this to be factual. They just don’t recognize that what they think happened millions and billions of years ago actually took place in a six-month time period only four or five thousand years ago. The Bible says so, and God doesn’t lie.
